The proposed development is a symptom and not the problem. The Maltese and Gozitans need to clearly 'think through' their development issues and strongly enforce their conclusions. Sadly, this project is a continuation of a development program that will find our islands void of natural habitat (ironically, replaced by development that is in very poor taste on a number of levels). We do not own the Mediterranean coast, and one needs to visit just one of the countries whom share the Med to understand the importance they place on preserving most of their pristine coast line. I am not against development. But we must not continue to think in a bubble (isolationism). The same forces that make a project such as this viable will not be around forever. The investors will lose. The environment will lose. The country will lose. It will take a number of generations to restore the beauty of Ramla Bay, unfortunately you and I (nor our children) will be around to enjoy and appreciate it. Frankly I would much prefer to freeze all new development so that the country can marshal the resources required to "clean up" the exceptional mess that exists in developed areas. After we refine our skills (and tastes) by cleaning up our backyard, I am more than will to support development that is accreditive to the beauty, environ, and commerce of the islands. |

As a resident of Xaghra, Gozo I oppose any construction or development beneath Calypso Cave and overlooking Ramla Bay. Can we please leave Ramla and its surroundings in their natural and present state. This is a sincere plea from the heart. I spent the summers of my youth walking to Ramla every day down the path from Calypso Cave. MEPA you are taking away much more than the beauty of Ramla. There are the spirits of our ancestors long gone and a duty towards future generations. Shame Shame Shame |

I and my family, condemn the action taken by Mepa in approving application PA 07947/05 for the development to take place below the legendary Calypso Cave which will ruin the beauty of the area. We believe that this project should be moved elsewhere, don't steal this veiw from us we own it because grew in it |

Dear friends, as you may have heard by now our lovely bay, the most beautiful bay in Malta, Ramla Bay, is in danger of being severely exploited by unscrupulous developers who are moving ahead with their plans to build no less than 23 villas with pools and underground parkings just under Calypso cave. Ramla Bay as we know it will be no more. THE APPLICATION FOR BUILDING THIS TOURIST COMPLEX WAS SHAMEFULLY APPROVED BY MEPA (the Maltese planning authority) ON WENDESDAY 6TH JUNE AT 11AM. Environmental NGOs have outrightly condemned this decision. The Xaghra Local Council did too. This Sunday, 10th June, at 2pm a protest and a press-conference are being organized in Ramla Bay. This event will be organized by Alternattiva Demokratika, the Maltese green party, but this will not be a political activity, this will be our chance to do something and defend Ramla Bay for the interest of all Xaghrin, all Gozitans, and all those who enjoy our lovely bay. We all should be proud to show that we care about our heritage, our environment, our town. A few individuals will get rich by destroying our very own Ramla Bay.. We don't accept that. I invite you all to come to Ramla Bay, bring your family and friends with you... enjoy the afternoon by the sea and let's show all the Maltese people who will watch the news on Sunday evening that Ramla Bay is not for sale! That the Xaghrin and all Gozitans can be united. See you on Sunday. And please pass on the message to all your friends. God Bless |
