I refer to Sylvana Debono's letter in the Times of Malta today, the 19th June, 2007. In her letter she refers to MEPA's professional staff who can "explain facts to those not technically oriented". It does not take a "technical expert" to know that the Malta Planning and Environment Authority should be helping to conserve the few undeveloped beauty spots of the Maltese Islands. It should not be attempting to defend the indefensible. She may protest loudly that there will be no harmful impact on the Ramla l-Hamra environment, but, again, it does not take a "technical expert" to realise that there must be. |

Shame on MEPA. Withdraw all permits if you have the guts to do so. MEPA should save our heritage not destroy it. |

This is another black star on MEPA`s reputation. They have literally lost the plot and are just letting property developers/speculators do whatever they please. Whats to stop them from building an extension tomorrow... a pool the day after..... an extra storey a month later. And get fined a miserable pittance... at the detriment of the whole island! This is no one`s backyard we`re talking about. THIS IS ONE OF GOZO`s SELLING ATTRACTIONS! Improving the environment with landscaping and more development... what hypocrites! Drop down the existing villa and plant it all trees & leave the local fauna prosper.... if you REALLY want to make the place nicer. Disgusted... at the least. |

"Mepa has no interest in lies and distortions." This is what MEPA said in today's newspapers. Can MEPA kindly explain what area of Ulysses Lodge had a valid building permit? |

The whole government's credibility is on the line here. Nothing less than sending the entire MEPA board home will suffice for me. The whole affair stinks more than Maghtab ever did in its heyday. |
