Gonzi has not ruled out Ramla l-Hamra development, remember!

Those who may be thinking that the Ramla l-Hamra development is dead and buried are only fooling themselves! The sole reason which halted the development of a number of villas on the slope overlooking the picturesque Ramla l-Hamra, was the fact that a tiny part of the development encroached on public land. That project, remember, had already been given the green light by Mepa.

This encroachment on public land came to light only after the deputy mayor of the Labour-led Xaghra local council, Carmen Bajada, supported by Astrid Vella of Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar, revealed the fact, presenting a document showing that a part of the land included in the project was public land.

The flurry of protests which had already been going on for a few months, rose to a crescendo following this revelation. With a general election looming ever so closely Dr Gonzi and Mepa found the chance to halt the project in its tracks. But there has never been any solemn declaration by Dr Gonzi and Mepa that the project would never be executed once the developers re-submitted plans leaving out that tiny part of the land which has turned out to be public property.

I ask readers to remember that the Ramla l-Hamra project, besides having been given the go-ahead by Mepa, had also received the blessing of Dr Gonzi and his cabinet, particularly ministers George Pullicino and Giovanna Debono! Only Dr Sant on behalf of Labour has declared that the development will never happen under a Labour government, hopefully in the next few days. So the choice is one for all those who truly want to preserve the natural beauty of the Ramla l-Hamra - vote Labour. Otherwise vote GoniPN and you'll get the Ramla l-Hamra development restarted!
