Breach of EU directives (letters) -
Sunday, July 8, 2007

Ms Sylvana DeBono, public relations officer, MEPA, Floriana.

Reference is made to the article by Barbara Bode about alleged breaches of EU directives (The Sunday Times, July 1).

This opinion piece seems to have found its way into the news pages of The Sunday Times. It is the author's opinion that there are breaches to EU directives. The headline is, in fact, not borne out by the content and the picture of the bay at Ramla l-Hamra is, to say the least, purposely misleading.

The crux of the matter is that, as is in their right, citizens are querying decisions by authorities and the EU is investigating. The authorities, in this case MEPA, will clarify its position once a letter of formal notice is sent to Malta.

So it would be a disservice to your readers to portray an issue in a light that is completely inappropriate.
